About Standards
The Somaliland Quality
Control Commission (SQCC) facilitates the development of standards for the
different sectors of the economy in Somaliland. These Standards are developed for
smoothening the trade crossing between the borders and the improvement of the
industry to produce quality products that exceeds the expectations of the
consumers and complies with the health, safety, and environmental regulations.
The Somaliland standard is a document, established
by consensus and approved by a Somaliland Quality commission (SQCC), that
provides, for Common and repeated use, rules, guidelines or characteristics for
activities or their results, aimed at the achievement of the optimum degree of
order in a given context.
Since then, SQCC has developed standards in various sectors
which include:
v Food and Agriculture Department: This Department is responsible
for the development of standards covering food technologies, food safety,
fertilizers, agricultural produce, livestock and livestock products, poultry
and poultry products, etc.
v Chemical Department: This Department is responsible
for the development of standards covering soaps, detergents, paints,
pesticides, stationery and related equipment and all products based on chemical
formulations.
v Engineering Department: This Department develops standards
covering civil engineering, electro-technology, information technology,
renewable energy, textile engineering and mechanical engineering.
NOTE: Standards should be based on the consolidated results of science, technology and experience, and aimed at the promotion of optimum community benefits.
